There is no contradiction in our being sustained by the author of our trial when we apprehend the truth that, for the child of God, all things dwell in Him. To deny God's sovereign hand in our lives is as foolish as denying that He even exists. And to deny that He is as much in the hard times as the times of ease is to have a very low opinion of His personality.
This is the F.A.Q. for our Ministry/Greeting Cards. If your question is not answered here, post your query at our Help Desk.
Using the Cards
Please do not confuse our Ministry/Greeting cards with the more common "e-card" sites on the Internet, where the visitor fills in a form to personalize their choice, then sends the card to the intended recipient from the e-card site—for example, sites such as Hallmark or Dayspring. At our site the visitor downloads the card to their computer, then—depending on the version selected—either prints the card for sending via postal mail, or sends it as an attachment to their own e-mail message.
The purpose of our Ministry/Greeting Cards is to create and offer printed and e-mail cards of a type that may not be readily available elsewhere—especially for free. Most are spiritual (the Holy Spirit, that is) in nature, and include scriptural text. Many—particularly those in the "Ministry" category—have been created for the use of church leaders, teachers, etc., in ministering to those in the body. They include cards for encouragement, prayer, support, and even cards specific to New Believers. These same cards, of course, can be used by anyone wishing to be an encouragement to a brother or sister in Christ.
I'm confused by the different Categories.
The Categories are simply a subjective way to organize the cards by type to help the visitor find what they are looking for. Often any one card may fit into more than one Category, but we have placed it in that which is primary. For example, some cards under the category of "New Believer" would also apply to venerable believers, or cards under "Praying" also offer encouragement.
What is the file format of the cards?
All cards are in the Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format. This is today's standard for portable, printable, cross-platform documents. The free Acrobat Reader is required for viewing and/or printing PDF documents. It is available from http://www.adobe.com.
I'm confused. What am I looking at here? What do I download?
Each card's listing at our Download Center is accompanied by a small thumbnail image that gives you some idea what the card looks like. You will see that for most cards there is both an e-mail and print version, which are both included in the ZIP file you will download. When you click on the file name, you are taken to a page that includes more descriptive detail—including a larger image of the graphics and textual content of the card. You do not download this larger image; it is just to show you greater detail. This is not what the card will look like.
To download the ZIP file containing both cards, click on the "Download" button at the bottom of the page.
How do I use them? What is the difference between the E-mail and Print formats?
The E-mail cards are designed to be used as attachments to your e-mail message. They are typically several (small) pages. You would write your personal message in the body of your e-mail message, then attach the card to that message before sending it to your recipient. The Print cards are designed to be printed on a desktop printer—color, preferably—then folded, signed, and mailed as you would any greeting card.
How are these formatted? What size pages?
All Print cards have been laid out for standard 8.5 x 11 inch paper, with a 1/4 inch margin all around. (Most desktop printers require this "grab" space around the edges of each sheet.)
What kind of paper should I use? What size envelopes?
Most of the print versions of the cards are formatted for two-fold—that is, folding an 8.5 x 11 inch sheet twice to produce a small 4.25 x 5.5 inch card that would require a standard 4 3/8 x 5 3/4 inch envelope. This size can use standard #20 copier/laser paper; the envelopes are readily available in office/stationary stores. Plain white stock is recommended for best results.
Some cards are formatted for a one-fold, 5.5 x 8.5 inch, that would require a standard 5.75 x 8.75 inch envelope. This larger size does not lend itself to #20 paper, but does better with a heavier card stock (i.e., #60+). Again, if you wish to use this format, the card stock and larger envelopes are readily available at office/stationary stores, and plain white stock is recommended for best results.
When I print, some of the text gets cut off. What do I do?
Our cards have been laid out with at least a .25" (1/4 inch) margin all around. This should suffice in most instances. If you find that text or images near this margin are getting cut off (not printed) by your printer, try this: In the Adobe Acrobat Reader Print Dialogue, select "Fit to Paper" under Page Scaling. It is hard to be specific about precisely where this option will be, since it moves around depending on your version of the Reader, but it will be somewhere under Page Handling and/or Page Scaling in the Print Dialogue. This will scale everything on the page to fit. Of course, make sure you are using 8.5 x 11 paper, and that the Acrobat Reader knows this.
Are there any restrictions on the use of these cards?
No. The content is copyrighted, so please keep the copyright notice with all copies, but you may print and distribute as many copies as you like.
Do I pay for these, or pay a royalty fee?
No. We do not charge for any of our resources. Our payment? Give God the glory—and tell others about our web site.
